IB Mission Statement

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people with their differences, can also be right.

Julia Bensur (Cornell University) and Zofia Stark (Villanova University).

 

IB Program Requirements

 

With IB Earn:

  • Substantial scholarships
  • University credits at a U.S. or international university
  • Advanced placement
  • Both an IB and a Mercyhurst Prep Diploma
  • Global opportunities (Recent graduates have
    studied in China, Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Poland,
    Austria, Scotland, Morocco among other places

 

Students may also pursue IB Certificates in individual classes as well as honors and college prep curricula!

  1. Basic requirements
    1. Language A - English
    2. Language B - French or Spanish
    3. History, Psychology
    4. Experimental Sciences (1)
      1. Biology
      2. Chemistry
      3. Physics
    5. Mathematics: methods or studies
    6. One of the following:
      1. Art/Design
      2. Photography
      3. Music
      4. Drama
      5. A second choice under B, C, or D
      6. Special course designed by MPS:
        1. Religions of the World
        2. Art History
  2. Additional requirements
    (diploma candidates only)
    1. Course in Theory of Knowledge
    2. 4,000 word essay in one of six subject areas
    3. Artistic, creative, and social service activity
