Award Winners

The results are in! Of the 109 works of art submitted, juror Maryetta Mauthe has selected 32 pieces.

The prizewinners include Our Lady of Peace student Katie Cooney. Katie will receive $200.00 for her first prize winning ceramic bowl.

David Solberg, a student attending James W. Parker Middle School, earned the second place prize of $100.00 for his color photograph.

Joshua Maas, a student at Our Lady of Peace, won the third place of $50.00 for his watercolor.

The three Honorable Mentions will each receive a cash prize of $25.00, these winners include:

JUROR: Mary Etta Mauthe

Mary Etta Mauthe is a graduate of the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. She also did additional postgraduate work at the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Buffalo State University, and Mercyhurst College.

She was also a teacher for 40 years, teaching students in elementary school through college and adult education. The last 23 years of her teaching career were spent at Mercyhurst Prep, where she chaired the art department, developed art curriculum, taught IB art, creative problem solving, drawing, painting, and fibers classes, just to name a few. In 1987, she was recognized by the Pennsylvania Art Education Association as one of Pennsylvania’s outstanding art educators. She currently works as an independent artist, using her extensive garden as subject matter for her work with oil and pastels. Since her retirement 2 years ago, she has found more time to make art and enjoy painting the porches and gardens of Chautauqua.
